The Details

All original watercolor paintings and giclee reproductions are made with the finest quality acid-free materials. All watercolor paper is either 140 or 300lb. Mats are neutral color and usually 4-6” in width. Frames are matt black metal or cherry wood frame. All sizes given include mat or mat and frame. All giclees and some original watercolors are sold without a frame and packaged in a plastic sleeve. Box paintings need no mat and frame and have either a 2” or a ¾ “depth. All larger paintings use Plexiglas instead of glass. Most pieces that are in a mat in a plastic sleeve fit easily into a ready-made frame.

Giclee

A giclee is the finest reproduction available today. It’s a digital reproduction using thousand of minute dots of paint in colors that are exactly the same as the original. They’re printed on beautiful, soft white watercolor paper. Each giclee is hand numbered and is a limited edition.

Box Paintings

Part of the appeal of oil paintings is that they need no glass or mat. I found a method of creating watercolor paintings that need no glass and mat and where the painting wraps all the way around the sides of the painting. It’s a unique look and creates a watercolor that has an immediate presence. After I paint my watercolor painting on watercolor paper, it is adhered to the box using a product that actually turns to plastic once it’s dry. The box is made by Ampersand and is called a Cradled Hardboard box. I trim the paper to the top of the box and gesso the sides of the box. Then comes the fun part! I use acrylic paints on the sides to extend the painting from the top (which is watercolor) down all four sides. It’s tricky matching the colors and trying to make it all as seamless as possible but it’s fun and relaxing too. When the whole box painting is completed, I spray 6-8 coats of varnish so the piece is now sealed and safe.
